2025-07-17

In summer, many people wear sunglasses not only to pursue beauty, but more importantly, to protect their eyes from UV rays. However, in daily life, many people will feel dizzy after wearing sunglasses. What causes this? The reporter interviewed Liu Lina, the attending physician of Hainan Eye Hospital.

Substandard glasses can cause dizziness

In daily life, sunglasses mainly have the following functions: to protect the burns of ultraviolet rays to the eyes, to reduce the damage of infrared rays through the lens of the human eye to the fundus, and for people with eye diseases, they rely on glasses to reduce the irritation of visible bright light to the eyes, and to modify the eyes.

Liu Lina said that it is worth noting that not all glasses that seem to have color can block ultraviolet rays. It can only be used as sunglasses after applying an anti-UV film to the lenses. Unqualified sunglasses can not only not block the incoming ultraviolet rays, but also due to the serious reduction in the light transmittance of colored lenses, the eyes are like seeing in a dark room after wearing, but will make the pupils enlarge, and the unblocked ultraviolet rays will shine into the eyes, which is easy to damage the eyes, and long-term wear will cause solar keratitis, corneal endothelial damage, fundus macular degeneration and other diseases.

In addition, substandard sunglasses lenses will have excessive diopter or unsmooth lens surface, and even bubbles, which will distort and deform when the eyes look at external objects, causing sore and swollen eyeballs, resulting in dizziness, dizziness, nausea, decreased appetite, forgetfulness, insomnia and other visual fatigue symptoms. Wearing it for a long time can also easily lead to eye diseases such as vision loss and myopia. Therefore, it is best to choose sunglasses from professional optical optical stores and regular stores.

The wrong way to wear it can also cause dizziness

Some people experience symptoms such as dizziness and dizziness after wearing sunglasses for a while. Liu Lina said that even if the quality of sunglasses is completely qualified, improper use of sunglasses can cause dizziness.

It is understood that there are two main types of sunglasses currently sold in the market: one is sunshades, people usually have to adjust the size of the pupil to adjust the luminous flux in the sun, when the light intensity exceeds the adjustment ability of the human eye, it will cause damage to the human eye. Sunglasses can block sunlight and ultraviolet rays to reduce fatigue caused by over-adjustment of the eyes or damage caused by bright light stimuli.

The other type is light-colored sunglasses, which mainly play a decorative role and can also be used when the sun is not strong. Light-colored sunglasses are favored by many young people because of their bright colors, rich colors, novel and diverse styles. If these glasses are mistakenly used as sunglasses, they will not only not have the effect of shading, but will also damage people's eyes.

Liu Lina reminded that improper wearing of sunglasses can easily lead to eye diseases, and it is not necessary to wear sunglasses on cloudy days and indoors. If you wear sunglasses on any occasion, even at dusk, evening, and when watching movies and TV, it will increase the burden on the eyes, cause eye muscle tension and fatigue, reduce vision, blur vision, and in severe cases, symptoms such as dizziness and inability to see for a long time.

When consumers buy sunglasses, the choice of lens shade should depend on the place of the desired activity. To effectively block out the bright summer light, the color of the glasses should be deep enough, but do not choose lenses that are too dark when cycling or driving. Babies and children with imperfect visual system should not wear sunglasses.
